5 districts of Uttar Pradesh rank in Top 10 aspirational districts of the country

Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Sonbhadra, Chandauli and Fatehpur districts are 5 districts which have fared well. The review was based on the information provided by NITI Ayog on the real time monitoring dashboard.

New Delhi: In what comes as an encouraging development for Yogi govt, 5 districts of Uttar Pradesh have been ranked in list of best- performing aspirational districts of the country. The list of most aspirational districts has been prepared by government think-tank Niti Aayog on basis of assessment in 6 thematic areas.

Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Sonbhadra, Chandauli and Fatehpur districts are 5 districts which have fared well. The review was based on the information provided by NITI Ayog on the real time monitoring dashboard http://championsofchange.gov.in since the initiation of the programme in April 2018 to October 2020.

The thematic areas on the basis of which these districts were reviewed are health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion, skill development and basic infrastructure.

In terms of improvement in Health and Nutrition, 5 UP districts which ranked in Top 10 districts included Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Chandauli, Sonbhadra and Shravasti while in Education, 4 UP districts are Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Shravasti and Sonbhadra have managed to grab ranks among the top 10 districts. Fatehpur appeared on the 9th position in terms of basic infrastructure.

In the delta ranking, the UP districts along with their ranks are Siddharthnagar (11), Shravasti (47), Sonbhadra (48), Chandauli (69), Chitrakoot (91), Fatehpur (93), Balrampur (100) and Bahraich (104).

Principal Secretary, Planning Department, said that the delta ranking signifies the efforts undertaken by the district magistrates for the past 2-3 months.

“The DMs must conduct detailed study of all the 6 thematic areas along with the district-level officers and try to figure out the reasons for the decline in quality level of any thematic area,” he said.

Balrampur district magistrate said that for getting better ranks in educational field in January-February 2019, Rs 2.47 crore was allocated by NITI Ayog out of which Rs 21.88 lakh has been utilised. In August 2020, Rs 3 crore was allocated by NITI Ayog and the proposal was sent to the Ayog on December 4. Solar PV system and RO have been installed in the schools with the help of CSR fund. As many as 2250 PPE kits and 22000 face masks were distributed. There is proposal to set up 1500 baby weighing machines in anganwadi centres and mobile medical units.

Bahraich is now riding on a wave of development and progress. After getting first rank in terms of basic infrastructure in November 2018, the NITI Ayog allocated Rs 3 crore and through its utilisation, the development work is being done at 15 BRC (block resource centre), 8 PHCs, 7 health sub-centres, and 56 anganwadi centres. The district is showing improvement in operation kayakalp, Power supply has been ensured in all the households and metalled roads have linked all the villages. Similarly, in June 2020, when the district got overall third ranking, the NITI Ayog allocated Rs 1 crore regarding which a proposal for setting up a turmeric processing unit and upgradation of seven health centres has been sent to the Ayog. Better work has been done in operation kayakalp.

In Fatehpur, the NITI Ayog allocated Rs 3 crore in March-April 2019, Rs 2 crore in April-May 2019, Rs 2 crore in September-October 2019 and Rs 3 crore in August-September 2020. Besides other development works, the fund will be used for development of schools in urban areas. Through GeM portal, under the CSR fund, medical equipment worth Rs 1.67 crore were bought for district hospital and government health centres.

In Chitrakoot, under the Transformation of Aspirational Districts Programme, the DM said that for getting good rank in August this year, NITI Ayog allocated Rs 3 crore for the district and the proposal for development has been sent to the NITI Ayog on December 3.

In Sonbhadra, the construction of 26 anganwadis are underway and development works are going on in the health centres.

In Chandauli, Rs 2.96 crore has been spent on health, nutrition and education out of Rs 5 crore that was allocated by NITI Ayog in February, 2019. Development work is being done through CSR fund released by Power Grid Corporation India Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.

Shravasti DM said that online DPR for buying medical equipment from Rs 3 crore allocated by NITI Ayog was sent to the Ayog on September 30. With the help of CSR fund, 300 handpumps were set up and furniture for schools was bought besides carrying on with other development works.
