Cong leader PL Punia likens PM Modi to Nathuram Godse, draws BJP’s ire

New Delhi: Congress leader PL Punia on Thursday set off major controversy with his objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Congress leader sought to draw parallel between PM Modi and Nathuram Godse, the man who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. He sought to draw analogy between the two by saying that it is their habit to first bow down and then attack.

PL Punia - Congress leader

“When he came to the Parliament for the first time, he bowed down. In 2014, he entered Parliament after bowing down at stairs, in 2019, he bowed down before Constitution but look how Parliament is being treated, processes being exploited. Such thing has never happened before. Even, Nathuram Godse first touched the feet of Mahatma Gandhi and then shot him. This is their tradition,” said the Congress leader.

Punia’s objectionable remarks against PM Modi drew BJP’s wrath and sharp retorts.

However, Punia’s distasteful remarks against Prime Minister is not an isolated incident.

Rahul Gandhi’s Godse jibe at PM Modi

Days before on Mahatma Gandhi death anniversary, Rahul Gandhi fired a salvo at the PM and compared him to Nathuram Godse.

“Godse shot Gandhi because he didn’t believe in himself. He loved no one, he cared for no one, and he believed in nobody. That is the same with our Prime Minister. He only loves himself. He only believes in himself. He is not interested in listening to the billions of voices in this country,” Rahul had told a rally in Kerala.

“He is so full of hatred and anger, that he cannot understand what India’s strength is. The same way we fought Godse’s ideology, we will fight Modi. And, I’m telling you, we will win,” Rahul added.
