PM Modi to launch PVTG scheme for development of tribals on Nov 15, details here

PM Modi will launch the mammoth Rs 24,000 crore scheme on the occasion of JanJaatiya Gaurav Divas.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to launch PM PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) Development Mission on November 15. This scheme will seek to empower the tribal population and enhance their living conditions, across the length & breadth of country.

PM Modi will launch the mammoth Rs 24,000 crore scheme on the occasion of JanJaatiya Gaurav Divas. The scheme is a momentous step towards securing & ensuring the holistic development of ‘Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups’.

Though, the scheme is yet to take off and awaits implementation on the ground, sources within the government are dubbing it as ‘first of its kind initiative since Independence’.

Notably, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced the scheme in Union Budget 2023-24. Presently, there are 75 recognised PVTG tribes, with their highest number in Odisha. The PVTGs tribes are spread across 18 states & Union Territories (UTs) and their total population stands at around 28 lakhs.

The empowerment & development of this ‘ignored’ PVTG class one of the highlights of Modi government. The Centre, in its Budget 2023-24 had laid out funds under Pradhan Mantri Development Mission to improve socio-economic conditions of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

These PVTG tribes usually live in remote & inaccessible locations, thus bringing them under mainstream a challenge. These tribes, living in inhabitable locations & forests will be the key focus of this scheme.

The scheme will look to saturate PVTG families and their habitations with basic amenities such as road connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The Mission will be implemented through convergence 9 ministries of Central govt. Some scheme norms will be relaxed to cover these remote habitations.

In addition, saturation will be ensured for PMJAY, Sickle Cell Disease Elimination, TB Elimination, 100% immunisation, PM Surakshit Matritva Yojana, PM Matru Vandana Yojana, PM Poshan, PM Jan Dhan Yojana etc.
