UP: Man lodges FIR against estranged wife & in-laws for celebrating Pakistan’s win over India in T20 WC

A man hailing from Uttar Pradesh has lodged an FIR against his estranged wife and in-laws for supporting Pakistan’s victory over India in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

New Delhi: An FIR has been booked by a man against his estranged wife and in-laws for supporting the Pakistan team and sharing a “disrespectful” WhatsApp status on Team India after Pakistan defeated Men in Blue in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The complaint was lodged by Ishan Miyan in Rampur district.

Ishan Miyan, a  resident of UP’s Shangankheda village stated that his estranged wife named Rabia Shamsi and his in-laws had burst crackers and made fun of the India cricket team on their WhatsApp status after India got defeated by Pakistan on October 24.

“The FIR has been registered and the matter is being investigated,” said Ankit Mittal, the Superintendant of Police.

The accused have been booked under Section 153-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 67 of the Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008. Currently, the police are investigating the matter.

Earlier, a 23-year-old man was arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police in Satna district under charges of sedition for making pro-Pakistan comments after Pakistan’s victory over India. The complaint was raised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Satna district secretary Anurag Mishra and others at Maihar police station.

“The man, identified as Mohammed Farooq, 23, has been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 124-A (sedition), 153-B (assertions prejudicial to national integration), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 505 (public mischief) following the complaint,” said Himali Soni, Maihar’s sub-divisional officer.

Several people have been arrested or detained based on similar charges in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan over the past week.

On October 24, Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in Super 12 Group 2 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. This was the first victory of Pakistan over India in 29 years.
