The Delhi Assembly has 70 seats and Delhi has a total of 1.43 crore voters, according to the Election Commission’s record for the election Lok Sabha 2019.

New Delhi: Polling for 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on 8th of February and counting will be undertaken on 11th of next month. The notification will be issued on 14th of January and the last date of nomination will be 21st of this month.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the deceleration of elections.

He said, the poll panel is committed to conducting free and fair polls and 90 thousand policemen will be deployed for polling process. Mr. Arora said, over 13 thousand Polling Stations will be set up for more than 1.46 crore voters in the national capital.

The term of the current Assembly will expire on the 22nd of February. In the 2015 Assembly elections, AAP had won 67 seats with 54.34 per cent vote share, while BJP grabbed 3 seats with 32.19 per cent vote share. Congress had failed to win a single seat with just 9.65 per cent of votes in its favour.

The term of the 70-member Delhi assembly will end on February 22.

# The notification for the nominations will be on January 22, while the last date of filing nominations will be January 22. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be January 24.

# Total electors in National Capital Territory of Delhi are 1,46,92,136, the CEC says. Polling to be held at 13,750 polling stations. Arora says that a media monitoring cell will also be formed for the election and all arrangements will be there to enforce the model code of conduct.

# The Chief Election Commissioner says 90,000 policemen will be deployed to ensure that the polling process is held smoothly. The additional secretary will handle any additional deployment of officials on poll duty, he says.

# CEC Sunil Arora says that consultation was held with three secretaries before the election schedule was finalised. The commission also met Delhi Police officials and other officials to check preparedness on December 26.

It is worth mentioning that Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi is eyeing for a consecutive second term banking on freebies it announced last year including free ride for women in DTC and cluster buses, free electricity for consumption up to 200 units, among the other slew of measures.

Congress has also announced that if it comes to power then it will give relief to people consuming up to 600 units of electricity. The BJP is trying to woo Purvanchali vote bank by the help of actor and singer turned politician Manoj Tiwari while it also has leaders like Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Parvesh Varma as its strong pillars.
