Kangana Ranaut summoned by Mumbai Police in Javed Akhtar defamation case; actress reacts, “Put me in jail…torture me…”

“Put me in jail…torture me and push me against the wall with 500 cases,” Kangana Ranaut wrote.

New Delhi: Mumbai police summoned Kangana Ranaut in a defamation case filed by veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar.

She has to appear before the police on Friday (January 22).

Akhtar had filed a crimnial complaint against Ranaut for allegedly making defamatory comments against him in television interviews.

Akhtar had in November, 2020 filed a criminal complaint against Kangana before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate.

In his complaint before the Andheri metropolitan magistrate, Akhtar alleged thatKangana Ranaut dragged his name in TV interviews after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The complaint also said that Kangana had falsely claimed that the noted Bollywood writer threatened her to keep silent about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan.

Quoting NewsRoomPost Tweet, Kangana on Thursday wrote, “Today one more summon for me. Come all hyenas come together…Put me in jail…torture me and push me against the wall with 500 cases.”

FIR against Kangana and her sister 

Earlier, On October 17, 2020, a local court in Mumbai’s Bandra has issued directions for the registration of an FIR against Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel for allegedly spreading communal hatred.

The complaint had alleged that Rangoli Chandel had also made an objectionable tweet to spread communal hatred among Hindu and Muslim communities. It said the Bandra police station did not take cognizance of the offence, after which the complainant moved the court.

Twitter  suspended Rangoli Chandel’s account

Following which, Micro-blogging site Twitter also suspended Rangoli Chandel’s account over a controversial tweet regarding the Moradabad stone-pelting incident.

In the tweet, Chandel wrote of shooting people dead while referring to the incident wherein a medical team screening coronavirus suspects in Moradabad was attacked by some people.

Chandel used the term “Nazi” in her tweet which was found to be objectionable by many of the users on the medium.

Sedition case against Kangana

Later, an FIR was registered against Kangana Ranaut and Rangoli Chandel at Bandra police station under charges of sedition and promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion.

The case has been registered under Section 124 A (sedition), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings by insulting its religion) of the Indian Penal Code.
