PM Modi calls for ‘Janata curfew’ on March 22 from 7 AM – 9 PM to rein in Coronavirus

“I am seeking one more support from every countrymen today. This is a public curfew. Janata curfew means for the public, curfew imposed by the public on its own. Every citizen must follow Janata curfew on this Sunday, March 22, from 7 am to 9 pm,” PM Modi said in address to the nation.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday appealed to citizens to follow “Janata curfew” on March 22 in view of novel coronavirus outbreak.

“I am seeking one more support from every countrymen today. This is a public curfew. Janata curfew means for the public, curfew imposed by the public on its own. Every citizen must follow Janata curfew on this Sunday, March 22, from 7 am to 9 pm,” PM Modi said in address to the nation.

“If possible, please call at least 10 people every day and tell them about the ‘Janata curfew’ as well as the measures to prevent coronavirus,” he said.

The Prime Minister also requested senior citizens to remain indoors for the next few weeks.

“Social distancing is extremely important and effective in reducing the impact of coronavirus. All senior citizens in our family should not get out of houses. I request all people in the country to get out of the house only when it is extremely necessary, try and do all work from home,” he said.

Number of Covid-19 cases in India – 173

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has gone up to 173 after 15 fresh cases were reported from various parts of the country. The cases also include 25 foreign nationals. Out of the total positive cases, 14 people have been discharged after being cured of Coronavirus, one migrated and three patients have died. So far over 13.93 lakh passengers have been screened at various airports in the country.
